Leaders of oppressed groups join Nepal’s new Maoist party

http://southasiarev.wordpress.com/

Posted by redpines on June 21, 2012

Jayapuri Gharti Magar–leader of All Nepal Women’s Association (Revolutionary)
Two thirds of the leaders of groupings under the old UCPN(M) have joined the new revolutionary Maoist party in Nepal, led by Mohan ‘Baidya’ Kiran. These groups (also called ‘sister wings’) include leaders of the Maoist women’s organization and  most of the national liberation fronts.
“The sister wings represented suppressed communities that the Baidya faction has always stood for while Pushpa Kamal Dahal had said that he had dug his own grave by forming ethnic fronts in the party. So it is natural for the chiefs of sister wings to spurn Dahal,” said Santosh Budha Magar, chief of the Magar National Liberation Front.
The article originally appeared at MyRepublica.

20-odd chiefs of sister wings join Baidya’s party

by KIRAN PUN
KATHMANDU, June 21: With only one-third of the UCPN (Maoist) central committee members joining the newly-formed CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidya, one would have speculated that only a few lower rung leaders would follow suit. But, this has been proven wrong.
Almost all the chiefs of around three dozen sister wings — considered the backbone of the mother party — of the UCPN (Maoist) have joined the new party. They had sided with Baidya ever since the beginning of the rift in the UCPN (Maoist). This has left only around a dozen chiefs of sister wings in the mother party.

This is the Imperialist System This is What They Want You to Vote For

http://revcom.us/

An environmental emergency confronts humanity and earth's ecosystems today. This emergency has many dimensions, but most grave is the threat of unstoppable climate change. The reliance on and accelerating demand for fossil fuels—gasoline and natural gas—are the greatest source of the carbon emissions that are choking, and warming, the planet. The U.S. alone, with just five percent of the world's population, is responsible for more than one-fourth of all the carbon emissions in the atmosphere. The ever-expanding search for oil has also led to massive oil spills that have done immense environmental damage.
So it is not surprising that the Keystone XL Pipeline has become an early hot-button issue between the sitting president and his challenger. Environmental concerns are supposed to be one of the issues where the Democrats and the Republicans, and their presidential candidates, stand in stark relief.

Now we have a Revolutionary Party from Comrade Rishi Raj Baral of Next Front

http://democracyandclasstruggle.blogspot.in/

Now we have  a Revolutionary Party

Yes,  now we have a  new revolutionary party:  Communist Party of Nepal, Maoist. It was the real rupture with the revisionists of 21 first century.

The national gathering has named Prachanda –Baburam gang as the traitor of the Nepalese revolution.

They   are the  leading figures of   21st century revisionism. The gathering has declared  the UCPN (Maoist) led by Dahal as being a rightist and a neo-revisionist group. Now there will be no tag of Mao thought (Maoism/Mao thought) with Maoism. Marxism-Leninism- Maoism will be the guiding principal of the party.  The mass line will be People's  revolt.  There will be  the '4 preparation' and the step will be The protracted People's War.

The three day national gathering of UCPN( Maoist) revolutionary faction has been concluded. More than 3000 leaders and cadres participated the gathering  from   the 75 districts.

Comrade Mohan Baidya had endorsed  political document that proposes revolt  the Peoples War as its main political line. In the document, Baidya has declared that  Pushpa Kamal Dahal and  Baburam Bhattarai as the main obstacles  to the Nepalese revolution within the UCPN(Maoist). He has mentioned :  ''We should struggle against the rightist revisionists and capitalists, bureaucrats and compradors.” In the document, Baidya has stated that it was a mistake to follow 'Prachanda Path' and termed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) a betrayal to the people, country and the revolution.

Similarly he has focused that : Chunbang meeting of the party, which adopted the line of democratic republic, took the party toward a rightist revisionist line. He has further stated in the document that the 12-point agreement signed in 2005 and which paved the way for the April movement of 2006, was a first attempt to abandon the Maoist revolution. This agreement rendered the party closer to the capitalist political parties and imperialists and expansionist forces.
Comrade Dev Gurung endorsed the new party´s statute. The national gathering also decided to hold its first general convention in February, The party has decided to go for a collective leadership system.

The gathering has declared Baidya as chairman of the new party, Ram Bahadur Thapa as general secretary, CP Gajurel as secretary and Netra Bikram Chand and Dev Gurung as  the members of Standing Committee.  There were 44 CC members from the 'UCPN-Maoist' . Now the number of central committee will be 75.   The first  CC meeting will decide the name of remaining  CC members . To day afternoon,  party has organized a press meeting  and   the official decision will be announced  there.

Real rupture with the rightist revisionists,  Marxism-Leninism and Maoism as the party's guiding principal, New democratic revolution: people's revolt in the  foundation  of the People's War, collective leadership are the main decisions done by the national gathering.

The Next Front will post the Nepalese/English version of the Document of Com Mohan baidhya 'Kiran' .

It is true there are some issues to be solved. Some issues are not clearly mentioned and defined. The document has not focused on international communist movement-ICM and RIM . The document has not focused deeply on the drawbacks  and shortcomings done by revolutionaries in the past and during the  'peace process' .

No matter we have done some ideological and political  decisions. It is the first step to move a head. But the main thing is its practical implementaion.

Let us march a head.

News updates and reports on the ongoing resistance of evicted people at Nonadanga

Update from Uchched Pratirodh Committee
Reported by Parag
After a brief period of relative lull, the struggle of the people of Nonadanga region in Kolkata has entered a new phase. While the collusion of the corporate entities for whom land is sought to be acquired with the ruling dispensation and its machineries, the metropolitan development authority, the police, judiciary has become clearer as the struggle intensified, there is now a new strategy in the direction of repression, as new terms for getting rehabilitation: “You have to become Trinamool Congress cadres, and detach yourselves from the ‘outsiders’ who have supported the movement till now, denouncing it as a mistake”. This is what Firhad Hakim, the Municipal and Development Minister of West Bengal, put as a condition before the slum-dwellers when he came to Nonadanga on 14th June, at around 7:30 pm. Addressing the residents, he gave the condition that if the slum dwellers agree to give a public statement that have mistakenly ‘allied with the outsiders’, only then will rehabilitation be given. For the rehabilitation, he said that primarily a 10ft-10ft room (temporary shelter) near Nonadanga will be given, and did not mention anything specific towards any permanent rehabilitation under B.S.U.P. project. When he was pressed by the slum dwellers to either give a written assurance or a public statement to the effect in front of press laying out his promise and conditions, because earlier they have been deceived by false promises of various ministers and political leaders, he refused to give any such written and public statement.

NYT on today’s Greek election: Sympathy for the Radical Left

http://kasamaproject.org/

Posted by kasama on June 17, 2012
Here s a piece that appeared in today’s New York Times, seeking to explain and situate the rise of SYRIZA in Greece. Kasama is not sharing this because we assume the accuracy of any part of this evaluation, but because it is interesting to see how the flagship of the capitalist press reports on these events.
SYRIZA is a broad coalition rejecting the horrific austerity imposed on Greece. Within it some revolutionary communists work as a  minority current.

Sympathy for the Radical Left

By ROSS DOUTHAT
IT is difficult to envision an American parallel to Syriza, the far-left political coalition that has a chance to throw Europe into further turmoil with a victory in this weekend’s Greek elections. But imagine a movement that combines elements from Occupy Wall Street and Ralph Nader’s 2000 presidential campaign, and you have a sense of where Greece’s leading opposition party would fit in the American political spectrum.

New Wave of Repression in Morocco - Comrades Murad El-Chuini and Abdeljalil Elhamdaoui arrested

http://democracyandclasstruggle.blogspot.in/

Comrade Murad El-Chuini, released less than a month ago after serving 4 years in jail is arrested once again!

Three days ago, and when he was in his way to Marrakech, comrade Abdeljalil Elhamdaoui was arrested in Ouarzazat. Com. Abdeljalil was one of the inspiring leaders of the heroic Student Uprising in 2008, of The Student Union (NUSM) and of the revolutionary trend within it called The Democratic Basist Way (Maoist).

Before that uprising took place, he has been excluded by the university decision due to his relentless struggles and activism and his unique dedication to mass cause. His militant and fighting reputation, as well his simple and clean soul, has gathered a mass of students around him in a battle against the exclusion decision, but it also made him the most WANTED by reactionaries.

Since 2008, he has been prosecuted by the police until he was caught the 13th June, 2012. yesterday the took him from Ouarzazat to Marrakech for investigation. And investigation in Morocco is the equivalent of torture and abuse!

National Convention of UCPN Maoist Red Faction - Speeches in Nepali by Comrade Kiran and Comrade Biplav

http://democracyandclasstruggle.blogspot.in/

The national gathering of the state committee-level cadres of the Mohan Baidya faction of the UCPN (Maoist) started on Saturday.

Inaugurating the gathering in Bouddha, Baidya aka Comrade Kiran lambasted the party leadership saying that it proved to be a complete failure with the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly. He also said his group was "in the process of forming a new party".
Nearly 2000 cadres from around the country are participating in the gathering, which comes a day after the mass meeting organised by the party establishment in the capital.

A Revolutionary faction led by Senior Vice Chairman of the party, Comrade Mohan Baidhya 'Kiran' of UCPN (Maoist) organized National Convention to determine the further direction of the party, its struggle and goal.

As the party leader mainly Chairman Prachanda and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has led the party into the revisionist line, the revolutionary faction have been disapproving on every way possible. 'The reason behind organizing this convention is the only ultimate option left' Comrade Gaurav mentioned, 'the revolution shall not be stopped'

Every cadre, people from the base, proletariat class, farmers, workers and progressive people is hopeful about this convention to bring revolution, a change which has been negotiated so far.

PUDR Statement on the awarding of life sentence to Seema Azad and Vishwavijay

http://sanhati.com/

June 11, 2012
PUDR strongly condemns the verdict of a lower Court in Allahabad awarding life sentence to Civil Rights activist Seema Azad and her spouse Vishvvijay on charges of sedition, waging war and under several provisions of the draconian law, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). Additional District Judge Sunil Kumar Singh, while pronouncing the order, also slapped a fine of approximately Rs 70,000 on the couple. The couple were arrested from Lukerganj locality in Allahabad on February 6, 2010 by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh, which claimed that Maoist literature was recovered from their possession and that they were associated with a banned organization, the Communist Party of India (Maoist). Their arrests were made by the Special Task Force, but the case was later handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Squad of UP making it a case involving terrorist activity.
Seema Azad’s incarceration and sentence is a clear case of silencing dissident voices. Her arrest followed Seema’s active chronicle of people’s movement. She was actively associated with women’s liberation front till 2001 and with the revolutionary students’ movement till 2004. Seema is also an active member of PUCL, Uttar Pradesh. Furthering her concern towards violation of people’s rights she brought out a new magazine, Dastak, which carried out a thorough investigation of the Ganga Expressway plan which threatened to displace thousands of farmers. She published the findings of her survey in form of a booklet and distributed copies. Dastak also published a long report on the arbitrary arrests and torture of Muslim youth in Azamgarh. Seema’s arrest came in the wake of the growing efforts to sensitize people of violation of their rights and other concerns relating to human rights. Seema and Vishvvijay’s arrests were a move to crush such efforts on the pretext of containing efforts of incitement against the government. Following the detention, bail petitions were presented in court many a times. Each time the petition was rejected for Seema’s ‘dangerousness’ to the status quo constructing a civil rights activist into a naxal. Seema’s conviction is one of the many cases where proscription under UAPA shows its true colours. By banning an organisation as “terrorist” and thereby banning even its literature, it becomes possible for authorities to target anyone by accusing that person of having links with a banned organisation. Thus legitimate activities become unlawful and therefore offensive.
PUDR staunchly denounces the judgement as being representative of the efforts of the government to squash critical voices and extends support to the cause taken up by activists such as Seema Azad.

RDF Statement on the National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC)

http://sanhati.com/

June 7, 2012
Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) condemns in strongest words the proposed National Counter-Terrorism Center (NCTC) which the Indian state is planning to build. Formed clearly under the diktats as well as guidance of US Imperialism, this fascist institution is going to unleash severe repression on all voices of dissent and criminalize protests of all kinds in the garb of fighting ‘terrorism’. The NCTC is going to be a central body and it has given its officers powers of arrests, search and seizures under the draconian UAPA. The Indian state which has capitulated completely in front of the imperialist powers, indeed require such draconian punitive measures to curb the mounting resistance of people against the loot of resources, and devastation of lives and livelihood in the name of ‘development’.
The US has played pivotal role in determining ‘internal security’ of India since quite some time now. In the year 2000 the NDA government allowed the FBI to open its first outpost in New Delhi to keep watch on ‘US interests’. This was further bolstered by the signing of New Framework Agreement for US-India Defense Relationship in 2005 and the 123 Nuclear Agreement. The current NCTC is clearly fashioned under US guidance and directions to institutionalize US terrorism on Indian soil. The “counter terrorism policy” of US has openly declared the formation of such mechanism for information gathering, undertaking of covert operations, use of non-state actors, use of and attacks by drones and they have pledged full baking of the US military and intelligence in all such operations. NCTC is clearly a product of this collaboration of Indian state with US.

Scotland's Referendum. YES! YES! YES! No Buts. No Ifs. No Buts

June 7 2012 -- Glasgow, Scotland

Thankfully, the Jubilee hype is over and we just have the Team GB hype to suffer on the run up to the London Olympics. We’ll still be having Onion Jacks for breakfast, dinner and tea. The EBC and other Brit media outlets no doubt will find other ways to be just as irritating.

Wotsisname, Leader of the Royal Labour Team GB says that Engerland and poor old Wales must decide. No way. Jose. This is a matter for the Scottish electorate and you can try and fiddle it all you like. Wisely, the SNP is not allowing Westmonster to dictate the pace, wording, or timing. Keep it simple chaps so that even the “don’t knows” can’t muck up.

The campaign has to make it a broad “rainbow” alliance based on a wide consensus. Even the Rainbow flag Fox, Colin shares a platform.  Anyone with a passing acquainting with the SSP knows that they are for and against Independence. The SRSM did not leave them over who was allegedly having it off with whom, but because of the vindictive attitude to Scottish Independence and a self-racist, self-hating, self-deprecating, self-loathing campaign, not only from the Unionist Platforms, but by the ruling Militant led clique, with funny platform names, such as Socialist “unity”. Nothing more divisive than unity, eh, comrades? The fact that they cannot give a straight answer to a simple question and have to “debate it” tells you all you need to know about them. One Federal Unionist platform advocates spoiling the ballot paper and voting No. You can guess the tortuous convoluted route of the rest of the platforms. “It disnae include; Gay Rights, Abortions, House of Lords, Monarchy”, etc. Then go on about Brian Soutar, as if Labour couldn’t out millionaire the SNP. The SNP took their own line and did not vote as Soapy Soutar wanted, despite the platform‘s repeated lies.  This from the people who regularly voted down entrenching their own Clause V, for an Independent Socialist Scotland. By trickery at their own Conferences When it was allowed to the platform it was attacked by all those groups as racist, fascist and Stalinist,” etc. and Republican activists were isolated and vilified by their Brit Nat’s. The SSP National Secretary described their attitude to Independence as “ambivalent”. I created a storm by writing to the Herald and saying, no it w
asn’t. It was duplicitous.

From Arab Maoists - No to the imperialist Zionist and reactionary aggression on Syria and all our Arab country!

http://democracyandclasstruggle.blogspot.in/

Workers, oppressed peoples and nations of the world, unite!

No to the imperialist Zionist and reactionary aggression on Syria and all our Arab country!

Our Heroic Arab peoples,

These days the imperialist Zionist and reactionary attack on our Arab nation is sharpened. In the previous years, imperialists and their puppets used their armies, weapons and bombs, however, nowadays they are laying together with all their armory behind their actual mask : the slogan of “democratization”, calls of “peaceful change”, “political freedom”, “pluralism”, “parliamentary road” and sinister electoral plays which will never change the political and economic situation but will only lead to further intensification of oppression slavery and fragmentation we are living in our Arab country.

Laying behind such fake mask and slogans, imperialists are nowadays pushing their local Arabic obscurantist and opportunist puppets to execute their dirty plans. It’s again the drums of war and military aggression: after the occupation of Iraq in 2003, Libya in 2011, here are the imperialists and their tools the Zionists and local reactionary classes intensifying their campaign, gathering their mercenaries to launch war of aggression against Syria. The world imperialism, living the structural economic crisis, is trying to overcome this situation by throwing the crisis consequences on oppressed peoples and nations.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) calls on the Filipino people, especially the workers, the Filipino youth and students, their parents, the teachers’ sector and the academe to resolutely oppose the K-12 Program of the US-Aquino regime. The K-12 Program which the Department of Education (DepEd) started to implement this year primarily seeks to further pull down the wages of Filipino workers by reengineering the Philippine educational system to churn out more semi-skilled graduates in a shorter cycle and introducing younger workers into the already wide ocean of unemployed workers.

Red Front Article - The Challenge for the Nepalese Revolution by Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplab'

New Leadership in Nepal  - photo by Peter Tobin

The leadership of Baburam Bhatterai and Prachanda in the Nepalese revolution has disintegrated. It has shown that rightist reactionary politics emerged again in Nepal’s history.

The situation has become difficult because their leadership abandoned the goal of the People’s Federal Republic.

But because the proletarian current within the Party is strong the Party has not been damaged and even if we face temporary problems our revolution is safe.

Now the principal task of the revolutionary is to take the movement forward to victory.

We need to evaluate how Prachanda and Bhatterai diluted and corrupted our politics and reach a clear solution based on the points below:

The Sarkari Gatekeepers by Rahul Pandita

http://democracyandclasstruggle.blogspot.in/

What will the Government achieve by banning Swedish author Jan Myrdal’s entry?

For many years, the Indian government has been wary of the international focus on Kashmir. On many occasions, it has banned journalists or activists from entering Kashmir, and in some cases has even deported them. But, of late, the focus has shifted to the ongoing war in Maoist-affected areas. For obvious reasons, it has made the Government nervous, prompting it to try and choke channels through which such information may reach outside India.

One such step is the proposed ban on the entry of the noted Swedish author, Jan Myrdal. On 16 May, Minister of State for Home affairs Jitendra Singh, while making a statement in the Rajya Sabha, referred to him as “pro-Maoist”, and said he had, in January, attended Maoist conventions in four Indian cities including Delhi. Singh alleged that Myrdal had advised the Maoists to “garner support from the middle-class in India by focusing on propaganda against security forces and highlighting human rights issues.”

New Red Party will be formed : Ram Bahadur Thapa"Badal" General Secretary of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal Maoist

http://democracyandclasstruggle.blogspot.in/

1. How will you analyse the latest development in the Nepalese political scenario?

After the dissolution of the Constitution Assembly CA plotted by the external power, there are many illusions about the movement, anarchy and eruption among the people. As the status-quo could not utilize CA for their interest, they wanted to dissolve it. Thus an unconstitutional step had been carried out which invited the confusion and political disorder in Nepal.
2. Very often, your red faction had said that pro- people constitution could not be given through CA. Is it justified?

From beginning of the CA election, there have been many conspiracies plotted by the reactionaries. At that time also, we said that pro-people constitution and peace process couldn’t be made through it. What we said has been proved. They wanted to derail the peace process and constitution drafting so they asked for integration of People’s Army as their pre-condition. After the process of integration they easily derailed the process which means new efforts have to be organized. They have underestimated the verdict of the people.
3. Do you meant to say the tactics of peace and constitution is wrong?

Through it, the party had wanted to go ahead, But it had been failed so new tactics is essential.
4. The proposal of Bhattarai Government to lengthen CA by three months hadn’t been accepted by the red faction, so it is said that your faction is more responsible in the dissolution of CA, What is your opinion?

There was enough time to declare new constitution resolving the disputes about some issues. We had played vital role to make it in time but alas, the disputes among reactionary’s parties including Prachanda faction had it unclear decision to go for another CA poll.
5 There were suitable position for revolution in the movement in identity based federalism. But the faction was behind the sentiments, How will clarify it?

Though we were the key role maker for the issues of identity based federal states and Madesh based movement we were not behind it. As the government seemed positive about the identity based states after three days Nepal Banda, the favorable situation had been wiped out.
6 Maoist Supremo Prachanda said that the line given by Baidya, has been his party line. Did he raid the line of red faction?

In which context he said it, is unclear. He has said it to make people mirage upon the red faction line. There was no any understanding in the party, no any national consensus among the major parties, they didn’t think right to announce in CA to dissolve it. They wanted to misguide the people and party cadre. So we oppose such a fake voice.
7 Your Unified Party is going to split, what is your reaction?

Although, Palungatar Plenum has ordered the leaders to be transformation, we are waiting them to be changed towards the mandate of Proletarian. They have gone against the proletarian mandate so we cannot wait for them so new party has to be formed for pro people democracy and communism. In the class war, new turning point has been developed, so we’ll fight in new way with revisionist, capitalist and reactionaries.
8 What will you say for oppressed people of the world and the revolutionaries?
We have moved with ups and downs, left and right so there are many confusions prevailing in the international arena. But we have run a long journey to make revisionist camp transform standing along with the red sprit. So, we are the sole revolutionary who has the power to transform New and better Nepal. We need your solidarity for our movement.

“Dylan raked those Masters of War, and then gets honored by them?
“It is possible for people to ‘see’ and even lead in one context, and be utterly lost in another. It isn’t just that they change, and it certainly isn’t that they are always assholes.
“Often the confusion precedes the sellout — which means that it is not simply corruption.
“And isn’t the Obama moment just such a cause for confusion?”
by Mike Ely
You see a picture like that, and it is hard to find words.
Tellnolies of course did:
“”I guess I am gonna work on Maggie’s Farm some more.”
Adam Richmond wrote to me:
“What a fucking sellout. He got the same medal as war monger Albright from a man who is planning drone kills.”
Honored by the Masters of War who lie and deceive?
We could spit on the ground and end the discussion there, if we chose.
But then Aine Fox asked:
“Question: is was he really ever a revolutionary? I just am unsure if his motivation was to make money or whether he at one point believed what he said.  I don’t personally think he was anything of relevance but i didn’t grow up in this country so maybe that is also why i have no time for someone who releases their music through Starbucks…..”
And that kinda forces me to step back. It is sad that so many have trouble seeing who Dylan wasbecause of who he is.  I  have trouble seeing who he now is because of who he was.
Dylan was a god to us
As for how relevant he was… it is hard to exaggerate. I often say “To us he was a god.” And I believe it. And it is a testimony to the power of poetry even in a time of birthing ideology.
