Taking off the mask: Prachanda grieves for India's Salwa Judum

Last month, India's Maoists won a tactical offensive that led to the death of Mahendra Karma, the founder of the Salwa Judum, a government paramilitary organization infamous for routine torture, rapes, pillaging, and summary execution of tribal people suspected of sympathy with the Maoist movement. In response, Nepal's own leading counter-revolutionary, Prachanda, has issued a disgraceful and outrageous statement, grieving for the life of Mahendra Karma, and making no opposition to widespread slandering of India's Maoists with labels of "terror." This statement is both outrageous and extremely dangerous. The use of "terror" is a open invitation for war on the people and the Maoist movement, and in uncritically joining with statements from Nepal and India's reactionary politicians, Prachanda is paving the way for violent counter-revolution against the people. To anyone who had doubts that the UCPN(M) has embarked on the road of counter-revolution, here it is, your naked proof. -Eric Ribellarsi
